Bonito Meadow trail, into the stars and Milky Way.

A soft trail leads through the meadow to the gentle mountains, draped in a cloudy Milky Way. This is Bonita Meadows at Sunset National Monument under the San Francisco Peaks in Flagstaff, AZ. The skies are exquisitely dark and beautiful. This welcoming landscape is one of Carla’s favorite places in Northern Arizona.

Artist’s Story

Sometimes the best shots are the simplest. I was getting a quick image in before heading out for the “real shoot” at Wupatki National Monument. I stopped at Bonito Meadow, under the shadow of the San Francisco Peaks in Flagstaff. I put my trusty Sony on the tripod and walked down the trail until I heard my Spirit Guide say, “Stop! This is it. Set up and take the picture!” The clouds were in perfect partnership with the Milky Way and the trail – completely delightful! This is a single exposure at 15 seconds, with my favorite astro-modified Sony camera and the Sony 24GM lens.
