Blessing Moon is a rich blue image of the August full moon setting into Granite Mountain’s embrace. There was just enough light from the rising sun to illuminate the fine details of the saguaro-studded Sonoran Desert. Divine perfection in a single shot! Taken at Granite Mountain on the Scottsdale Sonoran Preserve by Carla Meeske, using her trusty Tamron 100-500mm on her Sony A74.
Artist’s Story
Shooting the full moon is actually very tricky because if the surrounding light is too dark, the moon becomes extremely bright, and the foreground is impossible to see. To capture the full moon correctly there needs to be enough ambient light from the setting or rising sun. This image was perfect. The predawn light was giving just enough illumination to the mountain without overwhelming the brilliance of the moon. I hike and ride my bike and horses on this mountain throughout the winter months. It’s very special to me. I have made friends with the cactuses, the birds and even yes, the rattlesnakes. I’m so happy to share Blessing Moon on Granite Mountain with you. May this image be a blessing in your home, as it is in mine.
