Behold the majestic Ponderosa Pine Campground King crowned by the Andromeda Galaxy in this spectacular night sky image from Greer, Arizona. Ponderosa Sky showcases our neighboring galaxy rising above a towering tree at Hoyer Campground, with the magenta nebulae of the Milky Way creating a celestial backdrop. The elegant Ponderosa’s tall canopy reaches toward Andromeda without the encumbrance of lower limbs, creating a perfect frame for this cosmic portrait. Shot in Arizona’s White Mountains, this fine art image showcases the incredible dark skies available in the high country. Perfect for astronomy lovers and collectors of Southwest night photography, this wall art print brings the wonder of our galactic neighborhood into your home.

Artist’s Story

As I write these descriptions, it seems to me that so many of the incredible plants I photographed are gone, but not this Campground King. This elegant Ponderosa lives in the Hoyer campground at Greer, Arizona, and the 2025 Greer fire skirted the edge of the campground, but did not destroy it. I love this tree because it has a tall canopy and can reach up to Andromeda without the encumbrance of a lot of limbs. Be sure to watch my time lapse of the Milky Way rising around and through this delightful Ponderosa Pine.
