Gentle Cottonwood whispers, “Take my picture with the silky stars.” Staircase Escalante, UT
Cottonwood captures an intimate moment when Carla Meeske was traveling along Cottonwood Road in Utah. She was searching for the perfect dramatic rock formation to photograph with the dark night sky, when this delicate cottonwood softly called to her, Take my picture! It was her favorite shot of the whole night. Staircase Escalante NM, UT.
Artist’s Story
I love photographing trees draped in the Milky Way. Here the Cygnus region forms a delicate scarf around this sweet Cottonwood’s leaves, dressing her for a dance with the coyotes and bobcats that populate this precious land. The Staircase Escalante National Monument is known for its dramatic sandstone structures, and they are magnificent, but down in the washes I find my bliss. Trees enjoying life and sharing that joy with us. If you are on Cottonwood Road between Page and Kodachrome State Park, say hi to this tree, and tell her I introduced you.
