Colorado Milky Way captures the magic of the Spring Milky Way arch reflecting in the beloved Colorado River. The river cradles the cosmos as the Milky Way’s arching rainbow transforms distant Yuma’s glow into a celestial pot of gold at Oxbow Wildlife Area. This night was the perfect moment to capture the celestial wonders of our own galaxy. The quiet whispers of the night accompanied Carla Meeske as she patiently shot the 16 images that make up this stunning panorama. Incredible!

Artist’s Story

In the Spring I go panorama hunting, looking for interesting foregrounds that will mirror the magic of the Milky Way arching across the Eastern sky. This image is extra special because of the city lights. Like a rainbow, the Milky Way touches down into the city glow and turns it into a pot of gold. Yuma in the South was especially blessed this magical night. I was at the Oxbow Wildlife Area on the Colorado river, halfway between Blythe and Yuma, looking across to the Kofi mountains in Arizona. This panorama has two layers, the stars shot on a tracker and the ground. I stitch them together in photoshop to bring you the mirror of water and the cosmos, who carry the power of life through our land and our souls.
