Andromeda crowns the Ponderosa Campground King! Greer AZ

Ponderosa Sky captures the pink nebulae of the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy rising over a solo tree in Greer, Arizona. This “Campground King” reaches toward our neighboring galaxy, framed by the magenta glow of the high-country night.

Artist’s Story

As I write these descriptions, it seems to me that so many of the incredible plants I photographed are gone, but not this Campground King. This elegant Ponderosa lives in the Hoyer campground at Greer, Arizona, and the 2025 Greer fire skirted the edge of the campground, but did not destroy it. I love this tree because it has a tall canopy and can reach up to Andromeda without the encumbrance of a lot of limbs.
