Rare crested saguaro shines with the moon. Scottsdale Sonoran Preserve, AZ

Near Carla Meeske’s home is a cactus so perfect that only the moon can complement it. This crested saguaro is unique statement in the Scottsdale Sonoran Preserve, loved by all. The moon is its perfect partner in the sky. Simple and elegant, Crested Moon is a perfect expression of the love between Earth and Sky.

Artist’s Story

Crested Saguaros are special. Their tops form curlicues that spread wide into fans. This particular saguaro lives in the Scottsdale Sonoran Preserve, a few miles from my house. I was after a classic shot of the moon haloing the cactus crown, but alas, it didn’t line up that way. Instead the cactus and the moon were hanging out together side by side, best friends in the sky. Because there is a lot of urban stuff in the view, I decided to give them a clean background and let their friendship shine.
