Smoke from the Sequoias makes the whole night blue at Alabama Hills, CA

Experience the atmospheric beauty of stars shining through Sequoia fire smoke in this evocative night sky photography from Alabama Hills, California. The thick blue smoke from burning Giant Sequoias creates a jazz club atmosphere where mountains play shimmering riffs of starlight against the Milky Way. Kind of Blue is a powerful landscape photograph that captures a precious memory of ancient trees releasing their essence into the night sky, with the Eastern Sierra peaks rising through the ethereal haze like musical notes. The blue-tinted smoke filters the celestial light, creating an otherworldly scene that speaks to both natural beauty and environmental change. In Kind of Blue, Carla Meeske captured the dance of life. This fine art print preserves a moment of profound transition in California’s high country.

Artist’s Story

The thick blue smoke from the sequoia’s fire created an atmosphere like a jazz club, the mountains playing shimmer riff of stars into the sky. This little mountain captured it perfectly, rising up to the Milky Way and holding it in its arms, like Coltrane blowing his horn.
