This old miner never gives up, gathering the gold from the Anza Borrego rocky ground, accompanied by his feisty burro, and blanketed in the starry night sky. Part of Ricardo Breceda’s spirited sculpture collection that comes alive under starry skies. Carla Meeske has photographed most of them under the starry night sky, and is offering a few of the best as limited editions.

Artist’s Story

Borrego Springs, is home to Galleta Meadows Sculptures, around 130 huge metal beings who spring up everywhere in the land surrounding town. Ricardo Breceda fills his sculptures with such spirit – I just love them! At night they really come alive. I gave a lot of consideration to how I would light this statue, and the camera lens and angle. I ended up focus stacking and blending several different shots to bring this one
